A genus Ananas belongs to the Bromeliad family (Bromeliaceae). These are better known for the coinage Ananas comosus, better called pineapple. This genus originally occurred within South America. It was bring around the Caribbean Islands by the Carib Indians. It was there around 1493 that Christopher Columbus first saw it in Guadeloupe. It was bring round Europe.
