A genus Ananas belongs to the Bromeliad family (Bromeliaceae). These are better known for the coinage Ananas comosus, better called pineapple.
This genus originally occurred within South America. It was bring around the Caribbean Islands by the Carib Indians. It was there around 1493 that Christopher Columbus first saw it in Guadeloupe. It was bring round Europe. From either there exists was distributed to a Pacific Islands per Spanish & the English. Commercial plantations were established in Hawaii, the Philippines, Southeast Asia, Florida and Cuba. These are today one of a virtually all popular fruits.
A hard leaves grow in prominent rosets, arising basally from either the crown. These leaves come hanker, lancelike sustaining the toothed or even thorny margin.
